For many people in the United States, the advent of football season is anticipated months in advance. This may be especially true in California this year as the construction of a new stadium is underway. Unfortunately, a worker at the project was recently killed in a construction accident at the worksite.
The incident that led to the 37-year-old man’s death reportedly happened on a day in early June. Reports indicate that the man was working on the roof when he fell off the southeast corner. Though initial reports indicate that he fell 50 to 60 feet, later reports indicate that he actually fell over 100 feet.
Paramedics determined that the man died at the scene. Work on the stadium was halted in the initial aftermath of the accident but resumed approximately two days later. The incident remains under investigation by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health.
Investigations into the California work accident will hopefully provide insight on how the man fell; the information obtained in the investigation can be used to prevent similar incidents in the future. In the meantime, the man’s family may be left in a precarious financial situation as a result of their unexpected loss. Lost wages and funeral expenses can create multiple hardships for a family that is also grieving. Though they may be entitled to workers’ compensation insurance benefits, they may be unsure of the process, prompting them to seek guidance from an attorney who has experienced with these benefits and can help the family as they pursue a fair settlement.
